Biography

No. 11 LSU beat No. 8 UCF, 40-32, in the 48th Annual PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on January 1, 2019 at State Farm Stadium. Making the program's first trip to the Fiesta Bowl, the Tigers avenged an early 14-3 deficit to snap the Knights' 25-game winning streak.

LSU (10-3, 5-3) quarterback Joe Burrow shook off a huge hit in the first quarter to throw for 394 yards and four touchdowns on his way to becoming the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl Offensive Player of the Game. After big plays from UCF (12-1, 8-0) on both sides of the ball, Burrow found Justin Jefferson in the end zone from 22 yards out at the end of the first to close in on UCF, 14-10.

Burrow continued to lead the offensive charge for LSU in the second quarter, hitting Derrick Dillon on a 49-yard touchdown pass to take the lead, one the Tigers would never give back. After exchanging field goals to end the second quarter, LSU sat atop UCF 24-21 at halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half the way they finished the first, Burrow hitting Ja'Marr Chase for a 32-yard touchdown. However, the Knights wouldn't back down, matching another LSU field goal to keep the game within 10 as the third quarter came to a close.

While Burrow led the LSU offense with explosive pass plays, senior kicker Cole Tracy made history in the fourth quarter, notching two more field goals for 97 total in his career and a Fiesta Bowl record for field goals made (4) and points scored by a kicker (16). Tracey's second field goal of the fourth quarter came with four minutes to go to put the game away for LSU despite a late UCF touchdown.
