SCOTTSDALE, AZ (June 5, 2024) – A new era of college football kicks off this season and the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl will host the first-ever College Football Playoff Quarterfinal on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. MST, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The 54th annual game will be broadcast live nationally on ESPN through its linear television and digital platforms.

The new Quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff (CFP) will consist of four games, the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl in an exclusive television window on December 31 followed by three matchups on January 1, 2025. One team will have a bye into the CFP Quarterfinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and be announced on Sunday, December 8. Two other teams will play in a first-round matchup on December 20 or December 21, with the winner advancing to the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

Winners of the Quarterfinal round will move on to the CFP Semifinals the following week to compete for a berth in the CFP National Championship Game. The Vrbo Fiesta Bowl will host a CFP Semifinal on January 8, 2026, to close out the 2025-26 season.

"College football fans across the country have been eagerly awaiting the College Football Playoff expansion and the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl is excited to host the first-ever CFP Quarterfinal on New Year's Eve. The best of college football will be right here in Arizona for our local fans and those who travel to one of the world's best destinations," said Fiesta Bowl Executive Director & CEO Erik Moses. "Celebrating our rich legacy of historic moments and what makes college football special while ushering in a new era of college football make this year's Vrbo Fiesta Bowl a game that fans won't want to miss."

This year's edition will be the fifth in Fiesta Bowl history to be played on New Year's Eve, the previous two times as CFP Semifinal contests, including a memorable high-scoring 51-45 upset by TCU over Michigan in 2022 to send the Horned Frogs to the 2023 CFP National Championship Game. The game featured 44 combined points in the third quarter alone, with touchdowns on six-straight possessions between the two teams culminating in a Vrbo Fiesta Bowl record of 96 combined points scored in a single game.

The Vrbo Fiesta Bowl has been a must-see postseason game, with some of college football's most memorable moments occurring in the Valley of the Sun, and will be even moreso in the years to come as a mainstay within the CFP bracket. The final margin has been an edge-of-your-seat one-score margin in five of the last seven seasons and several of college football's signature games have been played at the Fiesta Bowl.
