SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 10, 2026) – The 75,000+ square foot playing field from the
2025 Rate Bowl officially has a new home at C.O. Greenfield Academy of Design and Innovation in the Roosevelt School District.
Fiesta Sports Foundation, in partnership with BHHS Legacy Foundation, donated the natural turf to the Phoenix public school, located in south Phoenix at 7009 S 10th Street. Along with the playing field, the Foundation installed two brand-new multi-sport courts and a new digital solar-powered scoreboard, completing a full sports complex for the Title 1 school.
In 2022, the Roosevelt School District demolished and rebuilt C.O. Greenfield Academy on top of the original school's sports field, leaving students without a dedicated space for organized athletics and physical education. The demolition created an open area that the school and district hoped to one day transform into a functional playing field.
That vision became reality with the Foundation's 11th football field donation, the latest in an annual tradition of transporting the natural grass playing surface used at Chase Field for the Rate Bowl to an Arizona school or nonprofit organization in need of a safe, attractive and functional recreation space. Previous donations have reached elementary schools, nonprofits and city parks in communities including Phoenix, Avondale, Laveen, Glendale and Bullhead City.
"As an organization that consistently invests in communities across the State of Arizona, the Fiesta Sports Foundation is proud to pay it forward and provide a much-needed new sports field at C.O. Greenfield Academy," said Fiesta Sports Foundation Executive Director & CEO Erik Moses. "The uniqueness of the Rate Bowl continues as the field used by some of college football's most prominent programs and best players will now offer a safe play space that positively impacts young people through physical fitness and personal development."
The new sports complex includes the 75,000+ square foot natural grass playing field, two 7,400 square foot multi-sport courts and a digital solar-powered scoreboard, providing the school with infrastructure it has never had before. The centrally located site sits between four Roosevelt School District campuses, including a Wellness Center, making it accessible to students and community members across the district.
The field is expected to regularly serve the nearly 500 students at Greenfield Academy, as well as approximately 400 additional students from neighboring JFK Elementary School and Amy Houston Academy. Annually, the district anticipates more than 7,000 students benefiting from the complex.
"This is more than a field donation, it is an investment in the future of our students and our community," said Roosevelt School District Superintendent Dr. Dani Portillo. "For our Greenfield students and neighboring schools, this new sports complex represents opportunity, wellness and pride. We are incredibly thankful to Fiesta Sports Foundation and BHHS Legacy Foundation for partnering with us to create a space where students can learn, grow, compete and build lasting memories."
Following the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting, Fiesta Sports Foundation hosted a football clinic for Greenfield Academy students and the broader school community. The event included remarks from Fiesta Sports Foundation, BHHS Legacy Foundation, Roosevelt School District Superintendent Dr. Dani Portillo and C.O. Greenfield Academy Principal Emily Ziegler.
"BHHS Legacy Foundation is proud to be a community funding partner in providing the new C.O. Greenfield Academy football field. This will be a safe place that they, and other children in the community, can now call their home field, to be used and enjoyed by students for years to come," said Gerald Wissink, CEO of BHHS Legacy Foundation. "This important community project represents the sixth time that the Foundation has had the opportunity to serve as a funding partner with Fiesta Sports Foundation in the effective utilization of the Rate Bowl football field sod. The Legacy Foundation Board and staff are grateful to be part of this unique project opportunity, which will support the students at C.O. Greenfield Academy and beyond."
